Donations help to fund the Festival of Words in November!
IMG_6801Festival of Words is dedicated to improving literacy by placing writers, teaching artists, and spoken word artists in public schools in St. Landry parish, and the area to work with teachers and students. We produce a year-round series of literary events, many designed to appeal to nontraditional audiences who may never have met a live author before. We’re also holding our tenth annual literary arts festival in November, which features well-known authors chosen for their accessibility and ease in working with the public, who give free readings and workshops and also go into the schools to work with students. When you sponsor a Word Crawl participant, you are supporting all of these activities.  You can make donations through paypal at festivalofwords.org

This year's Festival of Words takes place Nov. 1 & 2 and features
DONNEY ROSE, YURI HERERRA & TYLER ROBERT SHELDON

Come celebrate the life of monumental novelist Toni Morrison (February 18, 1931--
August 5, 2019.)
Aug 12: Cane Fire Film Series presents Toni Morrison: The Pieces I Am by Magnolia Pictures.  A percentage of proceeds goes to Festival of Words. TM2
Toni Morrison: The Pieces I Am offers an artful and intimate meditation on the life and works of the legendary storyteller and Nobel prize-winner. From her childhood in the steel town of Lorain, Ohio to ‘70s-era book tours with Muhammad Ali, from the front lines with Angela Davis to her own riverfront writing room, Toni Morrison leads an assembly of her peers, critics and colleagues on an exploration of race, America, history and the human condition as seen through the prism of her own literature. Inspired to write because no one took a “little black girl” seriously, Morrison reflects on her lifelong deconstruction of the master narrative. Woven together with a rich collection of art, history, literature and personality, the film includes discussions about her many critically acclaimed works, including novels “The Bluest Eye,” “Sula” and “Song of Solomon,” her role as an editor of iconic African-American literature and her time teaching at Princeton University.  Acadiana Center for the Arts - 101 W. Vermilion Street at 7:30pm. Shows are every second Monday of the month. Advanced tickets are available at the ACA or through their website - acadianacenterforthearts.org. - more info (337) 356-5153.
